NeMe: Vortex - Call for submissions

MIFF received an overwhelming number of requests to extend The VORTEX application deadline. In an effort to ensure the best and brightest have the opportunity to participate, MIFF is pleased to offer a new timeline.


The VORTEX is seeking innovative, interdisciplinary, new media projects, prototypes, concepts, and joint ventures that promote and feature cross-sectoral and cross-industry partnerships. Creators are invited to submit a one-page proposal, along with their online submission form, by January 5, 2006.


Proposals will be juried for participation in MIFF's highly successful VORTEX, a 4-day program at the Drake Hotel Underground, February 6-9, 2006, connecting the most innovative minds in media culture with experts who will provide the insight into taking a prototype to a business venture.

Throughout the four days at the Drake, Proposal Creators will engage in 15-minute meetings with industry leaders who will discuss their ideas and help them to evaluate and develop realizable action plans. Creators will have the opportunity to get advice from the experts in the areas of technology law, marketing, partnering, venture capital and business planning. At each stage of The Vortex, proposal creators benefit from expert advice and take their ideas forward. Proposal creators will synthesize the insight gleaned from the experience to present their projects to a panel of specialists. These 15-minute presentations build on the feedback received during discussions with industry experts in The VORTEX. Presentations will be judged based on their ability to move forward with the commercialization process. Six proposals will be selected to present at the VORTEX Finale.

Two awards of $2,500 will be awarded to the best and brightest VORTEX Proposal Creators at the Visionary Awards Gala. Proposal Creators will also be invited to participate in Vortex-OL-an online "virtual convergence research centre" for developers, investors, and manufacturers to meet, share, and initiate joint ventures.
