Glocal & Outsiders
PRAGUE BIENNALE, has by now become a much anticipated appointment in the art world in general and particularly in Central Europe. It will be on view from May 24th until September 16th 2007. The venue of this event will be in its signature location where it was hosted last year: in the magnificent post-industrial space of Karlin Hall, this year radically transformed thanks to the futuristic modifications of Getulio Alviani. The theme that binds the PRAGUE BIENNALE 3 is Glocal & Outsiders, giving a survey of local cultural positions framed through an international lens.
The central nucleus will be represented by an attentive display of the new artistic realities of the Czech and Slovak Republic (New Scene, New Photography, Minimalism and Conceptual Art in the Czech and Slovak Republic from the Seventies until today, curate d by Jiri David, Vasil Artamonov, Juraj Carny, Vladimir Birgus, Martin Dostal), What Went Wrong curated by Andrea Bellini presents three of the hottest Californian artists who will explore the culture ; and history of Prague. Baltic Mythologies provides emerging artists from the ends of Eu rope (Estonia, Latvia and [Lithuania and is curated by Laima Kreivyte and Luigi Fassi.])
From Kosovo to Kaliningrad translates and extraordinary voyage from throughout Central Europe and Ex-USSR as curated by Aaron Moulton. Marco Scotini’s exhibition The Process dissects collective memory and social histories. And to finish, Expanded Painting unites all possibilitie s of painting and its tangents through the curation of Helena Kontova a nd Giancarlo Politi as obtained through direct collaboration from quali fied tastemakers and artist friends.
These principally definitive projects, in addition to other as yet unannounced sectio ns, cohere to define this event’s scope. In the next press release PRAGUE BIENNALE 3’s entire galaxy will be exposed complete with the names of nearly fifty invited artists.
