From November 2 – 4, 2007, the first Image Radio is held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. We are now inviting artists who work with new and interactive media to submit works for Image Radio.
Image Radio presents a series of interactive new media installations that investigate the phenomenon of ‘Urban Screens’: How do moving images in public space function beyond commercial aspects? By ‘image’ we not only mean projections or large format display devices, but also PDAs, mobile phones, laptops, and navigation devices, as well as screens in shops, buses, cars etc.
Exploration in this new medium often produces unexpected and sometimes meaningful results. Based on this insight, MAD has collected for Image Radio a selection of international artists whose work directly addresses the ‘Urban Screens’ concept. Experimentation and interaction are crucial. Exhibited artworks include video art, new media, interactive art, and more.
Image Radio shows in several locations around the Stationsplein and Victoriakwartier, with the Piazza as the central point. All locations are free and open to the public. Image Radio is an initiative of MAD emergent art center: a laboratory and resource for art, science and technology
Eligable are works:
- Of high artistic level
- That use moving images
- That is aimed at public space
- That interacts with public
- That is innovative in use of technology
We prefer finished works, but we are open minded towards proposals that have a special focus on the area of the city where the festival takes place.
Image Radio will be curated by René Paré, managing director of MAD, Eindhoven and George Fifield, director of the Boston Cyberarts Festival. Fifield will select works from Boston Area/New England to be shown at Image Radio. Other works will be chosen from preselection, and proposals received from this call.
We especially encourage artists living in the Dutch/ Belgian/ German border area to send in proposals.
Selected artists will receive a honorarium to fit the art work and the Image Radio budget. Technical equipment not included in the art work will be provided by Image Radio.
Deadline for entries is August 6, 2007 (postmark).
Selected artists will be notified from the end of August.
