Brave New Culture announces the organization of the “3rd Lemesos International Documentary Film Festival”. With a program full of activities and with a first class selection of award winning documentaries, the new edition of the ‘Lemesos International Documentary Film Festival’ will take place between the 6th and 10th of August 2008 at the B’ Municipal Market (Theatro Ena) in the seaside town of Lemesos, Cyprus. The festival is sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus, Media Desk – Cyprus, European Documentary Network (EDN), the Municipality of Lemesos and other private and public institutions.

With movies selected from the most current international production and cover a wide range of contemporary documentary language, the ‘Lemesos International Documentary Film Festival’ functions as the main platform for presenting creative documentaries in Cyprus. In addition, through the organization of workshops and master-classes, it offers the possibility to professional directors and producers to get acquainted with the latest trends and tendencies in the documentary genre and to get informed about the prospects of fund raising and promoting their own projects in the broader European spectrum.

The program of this year’s festival will be more comprehensive in comparison to the 2007 edition of the event. This will include the screening of 16 documentary films most of which have won awards and distinctions from numerous international festivals and competitions. Some of the directors and producers of these films will attend the festival and their presence here will give the chance to the public to meet them in person and discuss with them the various issues that their films raise.

In the context of the festival’s parallel activities, a very important tutoring workshop will be organized which will be directed exclusively to professional directors and producers. The workshop is organized in cooperation with EDN (European Documentary Network), Danish Documentary and with the active support and participation of Media Desk – Cyprus.

At last but not least, another side event which is been organized and is expected with great interest, is the screening of two of the first documentaries that were made in Cyprus and date back to 1927 and 1929. The films are given to us by the Cyprus Cinema Archive of the Press and Information Office and it will be the first time that they will be screened for the public. The screening will be accompanied by live electronic music performed by DJ Michel Phialas. The old and the new meet in an experimental and improvising game with time.

Screenings start at 20:30 and the entrance is free for the public.
